Sir,
I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter #421 of the 18th instant enclosing a letter from Commander Hastings on the subject of the salary to be drawn by him in connection with his acting appointment as Police Magistrate.
I am in reply to request you to inform him that the Governor has decided to permit him to draw such part of the pay of Police Magistrate as will bring his total emolument up to $4500 so long as he performs the duties of the two posts, and while the half pay of the Warrant is available.
